New year, new drug prices ... but is it a brave new pricing world?
Yeah, it's January. Which means football playoff hype is in full swing and drug price changes are all the rage.
Well fear not dear 46brooklyn fans. Amidst our eager anticipation for new Star Wars content and Super Bowl hopes for the Browns and Steelers (our staff meetings have been tense), we have been busy downloading, analyzing, and publishing drug pricing data on our dashboards at 46brooklyn.com.
Specifically, we've reinvigorated our Brand Drug List Price Change Box Score with all the nitty gritty details about brand drug list price changes that have hit at the start of the year.
So far, it's business as usual through January 5 (new update to the tool coming shortly). We're up to 629 list price increases, which is "on-brand" for the start of the year, historically speaking.
While the details are interesting, what really caught our eye was an eye-popping number of 26 price decreases on some major heavy hitters.
"Wait, 629 increases and 26 decreases, but you're telling us that the decreases are what you're focused on? When did Martin Shkreli join the 46brooklyn board, you shills?"
Ahhh, as always, the devil is in the details our young padawans, and details you shall have.
In today's latest deep-dive into the abyss of the drug supply chain, we've got drug-level detail on the big brand price increases and decreases, along with historical comparisons, and impact perspectives. And we've got a few lessons along the way about the relevance and irrelevance of all the underlying data.
If you are unfamiliar with our Box Score dashboard, we highly recommend a spin through our initial launch report from 2021 and our FAQs. Also, don't forget. Please exercise sobriety in your digestion of this data, as it all predicated on list price behavior. As our good Jedi pal Adam Fein at Drug Channels reminded everyone last week, there's a lot more happening to the real costs of medicines underneath these list prices.
So with that, check out our new report, review the dashboard details, and stay tuned for updates throughout the month of January and beyond. And don't tell Ben that at the end of this email, we said "Go Steelers."
